Navalny aide accuses web giant of censorship and says it was misled by Russian authorities
Google has removed a YouTube advertisement by prominent Kremlin critic Alexei Navalny urging protests against unpopular government plans to increase the national retirement age, after authorities complained that the videos violated Russian law.
“What Google did presents a clear case of political censorship,” Leonid Volkov, an aide to Navalny, wrote in an online post. Volkov said the move was the first time Google had complied with a request by the Russian authorities to block opposition content.
