After Hinkley Point C’s go-ahead, the reactor in Essex would be even more significant for China – and even more controversial for the UK

China faces at least a four-year wait to discover whether its plans to build a nuclear power station in Essex will be approved.

Britain would be relying heavily on Chinese investment for its future energy supply after the government gave the go-ahead to construct a new £18bn nuclear power station at Hinkley Point in Somerset, which will be 33% owned by China General Nuclear (CGN).
